Jason had built a successful career as an electrician, but following a late autism diagnosis and mental health crisis at 42, his world turned upside down, leaving him feeling lost and isolated.

For Jason, Daisy Chain’s wellbeing service became a lifeline during a time of personal crisis. This North East charity, supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, helped him rebuild his confidence, manage his mental health and find connection – allowing him to start a hopeful new chapter.

“I was at a low point and felt completely lost,” Jason shares. “The counselling sessions allowed me to understand and confront my feelings, and the wellbeing program gave me the tools to rebuild my life.”

Through one-to-one counselling and community-based programs, Daisy Chain’s empowers people like Jason to build self-esteem, develop social skills, and overcome personal and professional barriers. Thanks to support from People’s Postcode Lottery, the service provides hope for many adults, especially those diagnosed with autism later in life who often face isolation and misunderstanding.

Neeraj Sharma, CEO of Daisy Chain, highlights the importance of this support: “Autistic individuals face some of the highest unemployment rates among all disability groups. They often experience isolation, misunderstandings, and lack of opportunities. Our wellbeing service aims to break down these barriers, creating pathways for them to live fulfilling lives.”

Statistics from the National Autistic Society reveal that only 22% of autistic adults are employed, while over 80% experience anxiety or depression, highlighting the pressing need for services like Daisy Chain’s.

Jason’s counselling sessions helped him process his emotions, manage anxiety, and explore his neurodivergent identity. Motivated by his progress, he joined a 12-week wellbeing program that included group therapy, mindfulness and physical activities like yoga and walking groups. These sessions provided him with tools to manage his mental health and introduced him to a community of understanding peers.

Inspired by the support he received, Jason now volunteers with Daisy Chain, participating in community events and mentoring others on similar paths. “Volunteering has become a rewarding part of my life,” he reflects. “I am proud to give back to a community that supported me.”

“Wellbeing isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity,” Sharma adds. “By addressing mental health and providing tailored support, we’re not just helping individuals; we’re enriching our entire community.”

Laura Chow, head of charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, says: “I am delighted that players of People’s Postcode Lottery have been able to raise funds to support Daisy Chain’s wellbeing service. The charity provides specialised, compassionate support that ensures individuals, like Jason, can thrive and empowers them to reach their full potential.”

Jason’s journey from crisis to empowerment exemplifies Daisy Chain’s impact. The charity remains dedicated to building a more inclusive society by addressing the unique challenges neurodivergent individuals face and fostering a greater understanding of neurodiversity.

For those interested in supporting or learning more about Daisy Chain’s initiatives, the charity welcomes involvement from individuals and organisations alike. Together, we can empower neurodivergent individuals and build a more neuroinclusive future.
